Exodus 10 Explained: Jesus Christ Revealed as Lord Over Darkness and False Power

Exodus 10 is Not Merely About Locusts and Darkness

Jesus as a radiant silhouette of light in the sky sending a swarm of locusts over Egypt during Exodus 10, deep darkness covering the desert, pyramids and Nile in the background, Pharaoh blinded and covering his eyes in agony beneath the plague.

It is about Jesus Christ confronting false glory and proving He alone is King.

The plagues intensify. Pharaoh’s resistance deepens. But behind every act of judgment stands the radiant authority of Christ.

The Locusts: Jesus Devours False Security

In Book of Exodus 10, God sends locusts that consume everything the hail left behind (see Exodus 9). Egypt’s economy collapses. Crops vanish. Wealth evaporates.

Why?

Because idols cannot protect what only God sustains.

Egypt trusted its agricultural gods, its systems, its abundance. But Jesus — the eternal Word through whom all things were made — shows that provision belongs to Him alone.

What hail did not finish, locusts completed.

When Christ moves in judgment, He exposes every false foundation.

The Plea and the Hardened Heart

Pharaoh appears to repent again.

He confesses sin. He asks for prayer.

But it is fear — not surrender.

We saw this pattern in Exodus 7, when signs were dismissed.
We saw it again in Exodus 8, when relief led to rebellion.
In Exodus 9, confession did not equal transformation.

Now in Exodus 10, the pattern hardens.

Jesus is not impressed by temporary sorrow.

He demands lordship.

The Darkness: A Direct Strike at False Glory

Then comes the ninth plague — darkness so thick it can be felt.

For three days, Egypt cannot see. They cannot move. They are immobilized.

This was a direct confrontation with Egypt’s supreme deity — the sun god.

But here is the deeper revelation:

Jesus is the true Light.

When darkness falls over Egypt, it previews another moment in history — when darkness covered the land at the crucifixion.

But there is one key difference:

In Exodus 10, Israel had light in their dwellings.

Christ always distinguishes His people.

He is not just Judge of darkness.

He is Deliverer from it.

Christ in Exodus 10

Exodus 10 reveals Jesus as:

  • Lord over creation

  • Destroyer of false gods

  • Exposer of counterfeit repentance

  • The True Light in overwhelming darkness

  • The Sovereign King whom no ruler can resist

Pharaoh believed he ruled Egypt.

But the throne of heaven never trembled.

Every plague whispers the coming Gospel.

Every act of judgment prepares the stage for redemption.

The Final Warning Before the Lamb

After the darkness, Pharaoh threatens Moses.

The tension rises.

The next chapter will introduce the Passover — the Lamb — the blood — the final blow.

Exodus 10 is the calm before redemption through sacrifice.

It prepares us for Jesus, the greater Passover Lamb.

Final Reflection

Exodus 10 asks a piercing question:

When the Light confronts you, will you bow — or will you harden?

Darkness is not just an ancient plague.

It is a spiritual reality without Christ.

But the Light still shines.

Jesus still reigns.

And mercy is still offered before final judgment.

If this helped you see Jesus in Exodus 10, share it with someone who needs the Light.

Have you found Jesus among His verses?
