Exodus 33 Reveals Jesus: The Presence of God, the Glory of the Lord, and the Only Mediator

Exodus 33 It Was Always About Jesus Exodus 33 feels personal. After the golden calf rebellion in Exodus 32 , God tells Israel He will not go up among them. The people are stiff-necked. Sin has created separation. But this chapter is not ultimately about Israel’s failure. It is about the need for a Mediator — and that Mediator is Jesus Christ. The Tent of Meeting: A Foreshadow of Christ Moses sets up the Tent of Meeting outside the camp. Whoever sought the Lord had to go outside to meet Him. This is powerful symbolism. Jesus would later suffer outside the camp (Hebrews 13:12). Separation because of sin required a meeting place — and Christ Himself becomes that meeting place between God and man. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). The Greek word for “dwelt” means “tabernacled.” The Tent in Exodus 33 whispers the name of Jesus.
