 🕊 Exodus 12 Explained — It Was Always About Jesus

Exodus 12 is not just the story of Israel’s deliverance.

It is the clearest Old Testament picture of Jesus Christ before the cross ever happened.

The final plague is coming. Judgment is at the door. Death will pass through Egypt.

But God makes a way.

A lamb.

Not military strength.
Not good works.
Not nationality.

A lamb without blemish.

The instructions are precise:

  • The lamb must be spotless.

  • Its blood must be shed.

  • The blood must be applied to the doorposts.

  • The people must stay under the blood.

This is not random.

This is prophecy.

Jesus is the spotless Lamb.

Just as the lamb in Exodus had no defect, Christ was without sin. Just as the lamb’s blood marked the homes, Jesus’ blood marks the believer.

The destroyer passed over every house covered in blood.

Notice this carefully:

God did not check how strong the faith inside the house was.
He did not check how perfect the family was.

He looked for the blood.

This is the Gospel.

Judgment does not pass over us because we are good.

It passes over us because Jesus bled.

Exodus 12 is the climax of everything building since:

Every chapter was pointing here.

To a lamb.
To blood.
To salvation through substitution.

The lamb died so the firstborn could live.

Jesus died so we could live.

The people were also told to eat in haste — ready to leave slavery.

When Christ saves you, He does not leave you in Egypt.

He brings you out.

Exodus 12 is not just Israel’s freedom story.

It is your redemption story.

The question is not:
Do you admire the lamb?

The question is:
Are you under the blood?
