Exodus 25 Reveals Jesus: The Tabernacle Is About Christ
Exodus 25 Reveals Jesus: God Dwelling With Man
In Exodus 25, God tells Moses:
“Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” (Exodus 25:8)
This is not just construction instructions.
This is prophecy.
From the very beginning, God’s desire has been to dwell with His people. In Exodus 19, God descended on Mount Sinai in fire and glory. In Exodus 20, He gave the Law. In Exodus 24, blood sealed the covenant. Now in Exodus 25, God provides a way to remain among them.
This points directly to Jesus Christ.
John 1:14 says the Word “tabernacled” among us. The Tabernacle in Exodus 25 is a shadow. Jesus is the substance.
The Ark of the Covenant → Jesus Our Perfect Covenant
The Ark was made of acacia wood (humanity) overlaid with pure gold (divinity).
Fully wood. Fully gold.
Fully man. Fully God.
Inside the Ark would later be placed:
-
The Law (Jesus fulfilled it)
-
Manna (Jesus is the Bread of Life – John 6)
-
Aaron’s rod that budded (symbol of resurrection life)
Everything inside the Ark whispers His name.
The Mercy Seat → The Cross
On top of the Ark was the Mercy Seat, where blood was sprinkled once a year for atonement.
This is powerful.
The Law was inside the Ark — and the Mercy Seat covered it.
Justice beneath. Mercy above.
When Jesus died, His blood became the true Mercy Seat. Romans 3:25 says God presented Christ as a “propitiation” — the Greek word refers to the mercy seat itself.
The cross is where justice and mercy met.
The Cherubim → Heaven Watching Redemption
Two cherubim faced each other, looking down at the Mercy Seat.
Even angels long to look into the mystery of salvation (1 Peter 1:12).
Heaven is focused on one thing:
The blood of Christ.
The Golden Lampstand → The Light of the World
The lampstand was made of pure gold, hammered from one piece.
One piece.
One source.
One Light.
Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world.”
It had seven lamps — seven in Scripture often symbolizes completeness (like the seven days of creation). Christ is the complete and perfect Light.
And today, the Holy Spirit illuminates Christ to us.
The Bigger Picture
Exodus 25 is not about furniture.
It is about access.
It is about God making a way to dwell with sinners.
The Tabernacle was temporary.
Jesus is eternal.
The Ark carried the presence of God.
Jesus is the presence of God.
The Mercy Seat received animal blood.
Jesus gave His own.
From Sinai’s thunder in Exodus 19, to covenant blood in Exodus 24, to the dwelling place in Exodus 25, everything builds toward one truth:
God wants to be with His people — through Jesus Christ.
Final Reflection
Exodus 25 asks a powerful question:
Will you let Him dwell with you?
Not in a tent.
Not behind a veil.
But in your heart.
The Tabernacle was a shadow.
Jesus is the reality.
Have you found Jesus among His verses?
